In “Joyriders”, I drew inspiration on my childhood, focusing on the times before high school. These are the moments where I would hang out with my friends afterschool, go to a theme park, or participate in something fun and stimulating. During these instances, I would often lose track of time as from my perspective, it would pass by too quickly.
This artwork depicts a dragon swifting through the summer morning sky, while the children on it grips on it tightly like a roller coaster, thrilled by the experience (I actually don’t personally like roller coasters).
Dragons have always been a go-to subject for me when creating art. It’s something that I adore working on and will never get old for me. That’s why I decided to incorporate its image and meaning into my artwork. The children on the dragon resemble stages of doing something enjoyable. The top left represents the awe and surprise when beginning, the middle represents an unexplainable happiness, and the final one represents the satisfaction and tiredness at the end of the day, sleeping like a baby.
You may also note that the dragon’s shape is similar to an inverted Fibonacci Spiral. This is meant to show how moments like this are naturally perfect and that there is nothing we could replace them with.
