HERMELLES/SENTINELLES - Sabellaria alveolata
Graphite on paper, 50x70cm, 2022, Corène Caubel.
Hermelles bench (Sabellaria alveolata) Champeaux, Sol-Roc.
Study of this rare sand reef created by marine worms, naturally slowing down erosion and sheltering an environment rich in biodiversity.
resounds in continuity with a research initiated during a collective residence of territory in the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel on fishing on foot, whose meetings and research show the impact of climate change: erosion, silting, ocean acidification, resource depletion.
But also the importance of algae that capture CO2, and finally the rarity of the benches of Hermelles, a sandy reef created by marine worms, naturally slowing down erosion and sheltering an environment rich in biodiversity.
The project seeks to raise public awareness of this rare, fragile and useful shoreline ecosystem, through times of sharing and participatory workshops, and the creation of this drawing evoking these benches of Hermelles, allowing a step back on our shores to consider them.
