Fractals are everywhere in nature and within ourselves, in our respiratory bronchial trees, in our nervous system, even in the neuron connectivity in our brains created during a logical thought process. Within ‘Fractal Unit’ lies the idea that we are connected beyond the boundaries of our understanding. I couldn’t help but be drawn by the miracle of life, birth and the idea of rebirth. To me, this painting encapsulates this emotion combined with the self-similar pattern repetition at multiple scales of fractals. The spider-like patterns around the figures form a nest of protection around the main event of the fractal birth. I was also looking to convey here the protection of a mother towards her child and how this intention expands beyond the physical into a realm of invisible energy. The colors are bright, bold and warm which highlight the powerful nature of this figure in flux. Fractal Unit contains the idea that we are One and Eternal since fractals can be found pretty much everywhere, as a matter of fact, the whole universe can be seen as one gigantic fractal web of similar looking spiral shaped galaxies and within this observation, I find an overwhelming feeling of spirituality
