I spent summer of 2022 in the Savoie region of France. The record breaking heat kept me awake many nights, observing the sky, lost in thought. My current series, shared here, examines this experience and expands upon my fascination with landscape at night. The tranquility of nocturne painting is expressive, lyrical, even gloomy; mirroring my late night thoughts.
The night sky can comfort with the twinkle of just one star. It can delight with a streaking meteor. When starless, it can absorb the darkness of one’s thoughts. As the night approaches, the sun’s exit can provide a palette of color or crisp silhouettes. Shadows cast by the moon shimmer silver and aqua with dappled light. The depths, impossibly invisible, create a binary world of shape.
