I always loved the word 'embodiment'. To feel something so deeply that you embody it, you become it. Ever since I can remember I used to go sit by the water. I’d go there to contemplate and to feel. At a certain point there was a calm. You see, I went there to let the rough waters settle in me. I went there to tune in to the depths of me. And that's where I discovered who I really was... a living feminine ocean, ceaselessly changing and moving and shifting.
This painting is the first of many self portraits that seek to portray the connection between water and femininity. It was born from my own connection to water, having grown up as a boater and spending many summers living seaside in south Italy. However, this painting is not just about the me, the artist, it speaks of the link between water and woman - the strength, power, vulnerability, the healing and life giving properties that both water and woman possess. This piece is really a testament of the connection we all have to nature.
