I created this piece in one of my painting classes using oil paint. The prompt for the painting was to take a piece of cardboard, write your initials on it, cut out a few different random shapes, and trace a bunch of them all over the canvas then fill them in with color. At first I wouldn't go outside the lines but my professor kept encouraging me to go outside the lines and not think so hard about where the paint would land and what shape I was making. Finally I did what he encouraged me to do and I ended up loving the result. This painting may be from a few years ago, but it is my favorite because it tells a story of how I discovered the chaos of abstract painting as well as how I found my painting style. With every stroke of the brush and swipe of the knife I felt like I poured my heart onto the canvas. As I said before this painting tell a story of how I found myself as an artist, its what got me to where I am today. It will continue to inspire me to never stop painting and remind me that it's okay to go outside the lines and be chaotic.
