"but...fly?" shows one wing of the nowadays rare swallowtail butterfly. The background and placement is reminiscent of the presentation in a collection of insects like those found in natural history museums.
The thought about that butterflies specially the swallowtail used to be quite common when I was a child, but it got pretty rare and I can not remember seeing it one last time.
The other thought was; without a second wing, the butterfly can not fly. The stories of refugees which could come to Europe, but still -a half- because they are not allowed to fly to their homeland to visit even after many years. The one wing stands as a metaphor to that feeling.
