“LATE, BY MYSELF, IN THE BOAT OF MYSELF,
NO LIGHT AND NO LAND ANYWHERE,
CLOUDCOVER THICK. I TRY TO STAY
JUST ABOVE THE SURFACE, YET I'M ALREADY UNDER
AND LIVING WITHIN THE OCEAN.”

IT ALL STARTED WHEN...
In 2015, when I was in Europe during the peek of refugee crisis, came across a poem called 'Home' by Somali-British poet Warsan Shire, one part of the poem has made a deep impact on me : "......no one puts their children in a boat unless the water is safer than the land......". This year, again while I am in Europe, after the period of massive disruption of pandemic, witnessing Ukrainian fleeing a brutal war.
As a human being I know that we are no difference than refugees, they too had home and everyday life just like us. How many of us are not living in our home country or city, in between life choices or being forced by unexpected life events? Some of us wanted to leave, some of us had to leave, some of us have fears of unknowns but still chose to leave..... Everyone had/is having/will have that transition moment of life changes.
The painting 'Boat of You' is a reflection of my thoughts on a transition moment of life journeys, referring on today's world and humanity. It is mainly painted in my studio in Australia later worked in Florence for finishing. All the sitters/models were asked a question : ' what is your emotion if you are forced to leave on a transition of an unknown journey in your life?'
