….because
silence is noisy!
Medium:
Acrylic on canvas, mirror, natural river stone, texture paste, gilded gold, silver
foil and Resin.
Description:
The artwork
is trying to urge action from each and every viewer of the painting and calling
for intervention to voice out and act on conserving fresh water, if not done so
in a timely manner it will be very noisy and disturbing tomorrow, which will
lead to drought and famine.
The International Energy Agency projects
that at current rates, freshwater used for water production will double over
the next 25 years. At the current pace, there will not be enough
freshwater available to meet global energy needs by 2040.
In numerous parts of the world, people are
pumping out groundwater much faster than it is being replenished naturally.
Here are some of the key facts about
global water scarcity:
·
Nearly two-thirds of the world's population experience acute
water scarcity for at least a month.
·
About a half of the world's population could be living in areas
with water shortage by as soonest as 2025
·
700 million people are likely to be displaced by intense water
shortage stress by 2030
·
Approximately 1 in 4 children around the world will be living in
regions with severe scarcity of water by 2040
The painting
depicts the beautiful present with a gushing river in the picturesque serenity.
The hand that is made with different colors of gilded foil illustrates the
different races of mankind spread across our globe, calling for action on one
and all to save the rivers and fresh water reserves before they dry out.
Finally, the mirror work calls on each and every viewer of the painting by
portraying their image in the middle of a parched dry earth. The colorful inlay
between the cracks, depicts the
different soils pertaining to different areas of our earth. The reflection of
the viewer in the broken mirrors calls for awakening and reflection on
forecasting the future for staying silent today.
The river is
made to look blunt and emotionless resonating the insensitive behavior of
masses today with respect to undue wastage and contamination of precious water
resources . Fresh water reserves are depleting at a very fast rate. The three
river stones are strategically placed in the middle of the river to catch the attention of the
viewer denoting that we need to Reflect, Act and Bring a change!
