The basic idea was to evoke attraction and repulsion in a zoomed-in, theatrical self-portrait. When we think of a self-portrait, the head usually takes center stage, whereas the foot does not; yet it is a fully-fledged element, even though both are extremities of the body. Furthermore, between two objects that can be desirable due to their fetishization — which of the two holds dominance over the other? The title is also a nod to the constant intrusive prompts that bombard internet users: the digital (immaterial) cookie is rejected in favor of the falsely organic cookie; matter prevails. Finally, I like to subtly suggest a contemporary context, such as the fact that this cookie represents the ever-growing Americanization, which contrasts with the foot rendered in a “grisaille” painterly style — even if it has succumbed to a pedicure.
