In this artwork I painted a phenomenological portrait of a horse's grief as a universal experience of mourning. The sorrow of the horse expands to all the world it has known but then becomes sublimated within the innocent guise of a toy horse, a transfiguration that cancels out the more violent part of mourning to accommodate the more transformative part of it.
