"You are Here" is a series of landscape paintings that portray remote places on earth which seem otherworldy. These seemingly alien settings are in fact real and specific places on our planet. These terrestrial locations are paired with pieces of space junk. The titles of each piece pinpoint actual locations on Earth, from which the subject matter for that piece has been taken, often using Google Maps Street View to generate specific imagery. Questions the artist is asking with this series include: What if we viewed our home planet's ecosystem with the same wonder and interest that we view other planets? Instead of discarding the planet we currently have to invest in future condos on Mars, what if we spent more resources on preserving the home we already have? The idea of junking a whole planet ties into the existence of hundreds of tons of space trash currently in orbit, and how this litter often finds its way to the surface.
