I have been dreaming about living in a better harmony with nature and about solutions how to do it. As first step I started to think about making sculptures that have less environmental impact when produced. I started to make sculptures that would not need to be in storage waiting to be sold or even be just left to lay in the back yard. There has been some sculptures appearing from materials such as seeds and lard, bees wax. Some of these sculptures were eaten by animals such as hedegehog, mice and rats before they were even presented. Appearance of this kind of natural aspect made me doubt if I could survive to live in the nature myself, like perhaps Saint Fransciscus giving up all his posessions and personal aspirations? Did I have enough skills or courage, was I ready for solitude? By these doubts I used salt to create a monk like figure which resonates to the sacral feelings that I feel towards forest environment. The animals need the minerals and by giving them minerals they might bite the trees in the forest less. The sculpture will stay in the forest instead of my own physical body, and during time will be contiunued to be shaped by animals and natural conditions. The sculpture will stay in the forest until it dissapears. The idea is affected by the mood of contemporary times, about contemplation over how one shoud live in the condition of anthropocene and over consuption and how to co-exist with other species and lifeforms on earth.
Making of the work is supported by RMK Pähni Visitor Centre.
