'See 01' by Merijn Vrij / Kunstvloed art symposium 2021
In the Reitdiep landscape, along the detour of Sauwerd, is the artwork 'See 01' located. This area drew highly inspiration. The work concerns a ready-made or objet trouvé, which the visitor may seek out or encounter himself. It will be a chance encounter with art: with the focus on looking and experiencing. As an ode to the landscape.
With this text above, the visitor has to go into the landscape to see what a possible art intervention could be. As a result, the walker or cyclist will look more intensively and experience the wide area intensely. This relatively simple intervention - the gilding of an existing old farmers fence - remained hidden until the good beholder discovered it. At the same time, this happens frequently, people are going to elevate everything to art. This is precisely the intention, because with the viewing direction viewed from the context of art, you as a visitor are also looking at the wrong - or the right thing! - set foot. You make a turn in your viewing and experiencing.
During the art symposium in 2021, this work was seen as the winner because it brought a lot of commotion and experience to this area. As a result, the jury decided to purchase the work and give it a final status.
The gold also refers to the gilded bargeboards, often ship or rooster, on the many small churches in the area. Gold is traditionally a signal color that also gives the object a special and valuable status. The choice for a farmer's fence was made because agriculture and cattle breeding are very dominant in this area. And it is striking that the fences are often used very carelessly. It is precisely this carelessness that makes it a kind of accidental art. By gilding this fence and turning it into a work of art, Ready Made, all farmers' fences in the area are, as it were, elevated to art.
The artwork was commissioned by Kunstvloed 2021
