Project is a site construction (landscape + architecture). Time is understood as a cycle and related to re-thinking of Anthropocene through
the perspective of surroundings, affected by people and person by itself. The
aim is to create cycles by using materiality. In this case, two processes,
cycles are being tested practically – remains of people after dying and surroundings,
induced by people. It is about the circumstances related to living on Earth: life and death,
culture and nature, manufacture and waste, creation and abandonment.
CYCLE 1. Ecological alternative for funeral. The aim is to show that death
does not mean the end. It could be a part of a cycle for a new life
creation. (HUMAN – SOIL – TREE)
CYCLE 2. Use of waste created by humans. In a landfill made
entirely from phosphogypsum (leftover after preparation of phosphorus
fertilizers). (PHOSPHOGYPSUM
– GYPSUM AS BUILDING MATERIAL)
Two different processes are being created. The
first one – compost of dead human body. The second one – building material is
created from leftovers. This means two transformations – from antropo to bio
and from land to art.
Intervention is created in industrial area.
New hill is constructed by using gypsum (made out from phosphogypsum). The
inside area of the hill is filled with soil. From inside part of a new
construction light erupts. Transformation of human body to soil creates thermal
energy so it can be collected and used later on.
Place of intervention - industrial area with a
huge mountain of phosphogypsum. It is a place where waste by human is made because
of fertilizers creation. This mean – waste is created for the reason it would
be possible to grow food. Human becomes soil so it could be possible to grow
plants.
Cemeteries and industrial areas are usually
described as unwanted urban spaces. In other words – it is non-place. It is
like a dark site of a city which works in utilitarian way. In the project two
unwanted places are integrated into the city by creating two different
processes.
Needs for composting process – alfafa seeds,
straw, sawdust, oxygen and moisture.
Needs for gypsum – phosphogypsum, water, zeolite.
