100 Colori or One Hundred Colors (CentoColori) is a land art project created in Residence in Grosseto, Italy, for the international call DUNE2022, sponsored by theClan Group and Change Academy of Grosseto in MaremmaPark along theTuscan coast.
100 Colori was inspired by California based artist SashaDuerr'sbook Natural Palettes, aplant-based color guide exploring sustainable color palettes derived from nature.
Ambra walked Maremma Park taking photograph sand observing the land scape with an eyeto creating a palette for
the park. The sky, the sea, ponds, dunes and various plants and lichens contributed a diverse collection of hues,
altering with the light and the weather.
She selected one hundred colors from those she found in the park and painted them onto stiff cardboard using acrylic
paint. These thirty-centimeter squaretiles were then laid in a grid on the dunes, creating a representation of the
area's natural palette within the landscape.
Throught he seasons, naturere connects us to the real rhythms of life and allows us to create emotional, physical and natural
bond sand connectionswith what surrounds us. Through colors it is possible to identify which season weare livingin.
There isso much richness and variety in this ecosystem. Distilling the land scape into colors encourages the viewer
to make an effort to keep those colors pristine, free of pollution and human interference. It setsup a sort of treasure
hunt, looking for particular hues in the surrounding landscape. Our delight betraysour kinship with nature; deep in
our beings, humans need wildness, and weneed it to be healthy.
Society and nature inspire me the most to make art. The power of nature is out of balance, as is society, because it is
the true flow of life. She thinks art helps to heal because the artist can enclose
emotions, sensations, their own self in the material and this allows those who interact with the work to perceive and sometimes absorb the energies concentrated in the project.
With 100 Colori, Ambra brings the environment out of the background and focuses our attention on the renewingand cyclical power of nature. If we can access this sort of a wareness in our every day life, we will find our selves in a calmer, more sustainable world. This translates not only into healthier ecosystems, but healthier people.
