“S'ciavo”
is part of the series of illustrations "The sweet life of one
Italian monster" dedicated to Giacomo Casanova, one of the most
famous seducers of all times, and to his love adventures in the
Venice of 1700.
This
illustration represents two ladies elegantly dressed in a carriage
running towards a ball. With gestures and looks they express their
affection and interest to Casanova they see in the distance. The
broken frame, the branches that move and the ribbons that fly
represent the haste they try to reach their beloved Casanova with.
Above the carriage tireless Cupido has already begun his work. The
word "S'ciavo" in creative lettering at the base of the
illustration means a greeting in Venetian dialect that Casanova will
address to his ladies in a while.
