THE HYPOCRITE: Shoulder piece

This collection represents my reflection of social behavioral norms within the context of Chinese culture. The piece explores the duality of hypocrisy through a body screen form: the front embodies social politeness, while the back reveals the concealed, hypocritical self. Inspired by the traditional Chinese accessory known as the yunjian (cloud collar), this shoulder piece explores the fusion of accessories and body language, resulting in a wearable fashion sculpture.

The fabrication techniques combine leather wet-moulding with leather-bamboo weaving. The key challenge lies in seamlessly transitioning the leather—moulded and stitched over the contours of the human body—into an open weave with bamboo tips.

As a third generation in a family business of bamboo craft, this experience has allowed me to merge my family legacy of craft with my interest in luxury leather goods, and bring my Eastern cultural background into my artistic practice.
