Rotlicht is based on the idea of creating a new formal aesthetic with familiar materials. Currently, it is inevitable to deal with an environmentally conscious production and the recycling of products.
Therefore, through this project I am trying to create awareness on how we can recycle materials while focusing on the aesthetics of objects.
Since recycling waste products, such as plastic, is one of the biggest issues of our century, I deliberately chose Greencast® as the main material of the luminary. Greencast® is a sustainably produced acrylic glass made from PMMA scraps and already recycled acrylic glass products. The great advantage of this material is that it can be recycled again and again, so it is a circular material.
The translucent acrylic glass has the property of being translucent despite being colored, which makes it ideal for use as a lamp.
Heating the cut Greencast® sheets offers the possibility to deform them. A special folding technique then makes it possible to give the lamp its final shape. This process makes each lamp unique.
An A++ LED serves as the illuminant, which is particularly long-lasting and energy-saving.
Through its shape and color, the lamp gives the entire room a fascinating atmosphere.
