Hair dryers are used every day, but we keep hiding them. Also the traditional hair dryer does not offer a proper standing surface and looks messy while taking up too much space. In order to create a perfect symbiosis between art object and everyday object, I started to carry out form studies with familiar forms from nature. Here the golden ratio and the "golden egg" from Richard Merrick served as orientation.
Richard Merrick points to the forgotten "Cosmic Egg", which all things originated from, bringing the world into balance: "The Galaxy that Laid the Golden Egg. While we don't hear much about it today, knowledge of this 'cosmic egg' geometry was apparently well known in the ancient world. The ancient Egyptian fable The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs speaks of this wisdom in philosophical terms long before Aesop wrote his fables. But the Great Pyramid of Khufu made it real. This triangular building was once a temple to the Earth-Moon egg, celebrating the golden mean in nature for all to see. The ancient Egyptian Naga knew that this 'divine proportion' contained everything and all things originated from it, bringing the world into a fine balance for life to evolve."
After numerous shape studies and 3-D models, the CalmDryer was developed from the inspiring example of the "Golden Egg". Thanks to the shape, the newly designed hair dryer looks like a decorative element and reflects the connection to nature. This form, known since the beginning of time, spreads a certain calm: The aesthetics of the golden ratio which creates a natural and familiar harmony. The whole hair dryer is handy, has a round base and the footprint of a small glass. It can be easily stored in drawers but can also stand proudly on the dressing table. During use the hair dryer impresses with its special design: To use the CalmDryer, simply lift it as you would drink out of a glass. Thanks to the mechanical start-stop automatic, it will blow air at the last set level. When you put the hair dryer down, it switches off automatically. The aim is that the hair dryer appears tidy and calm, thanks to its familiar egg shape. In this way it can stand on the dressing table, instead of awaken the need to put it away.
