Embroidered Touch by Anke Loh Studio in Chicago, USA is a sensory textile experience
that activates soundscapes and visual animations through touch, exploring connection
through fabric, sound, and image.
Short project description
The organic, interactive technical embroidery is created in response to locally sourced
and recycled textiles. When touched, the embroidered surfaces activate one of five
soundscapes—Woman, Immortal, Morning, Midday, or Evening. The Woman’s soundscape
blends, for example, natural sounds with a baby’s cry, heartbeat, and breath, shifting
with the movement of the hand across the fabric. Simultaneously, the touch triggers
stop-motion animations on a nearby iPad, mapping a journey through the human body
that begins with the heart. Crafted from repurposed textiles, these animations and
soundscapes bridge physical and digital realms, creating an immersive experience of
touch, memory, and embodied storytelling.
