Lingling Zhao is a Las Vegas-based contemporary painter working in oil on canvas. Her practice sits at the intersection of modern painting, mysticism, and traditional Chinese philosophy, luminously expressed through vibrantly colored, large-scale works that depict imaginary worlds bridging the natural and spiritual realms.
Born and raised in China, Lingling earned her BA from Northwest Textile University, Xi'an, China, where she developed a deep foundation in traditional Chinese arts. Her work draws heavily from classical Chinese painting philosophy — particularly the pursuit of essential character over pure representation — while embracing contemporary influences ranging from Taoist thought to the conceptual language of quantum physics.
Her paintings have been exhibited at the Las Vegas Convention Center (2018) and the US-China Cultural Association, Las Vegas (2019). She was recipient of the "Young Artist with Most Potential Grant" from the McKnight Artist Program and has been featured in Destig Magazine (July 2021) and Artistonish Art Magazine (September 2022). Her works "The Lonely Soul" and "Old Lady Praying" were shown at Group Exhibitions "NUDUS" in August 2022.
Working primarily in oil on canvas in formats ranging from 18×24 to 36×48 inches, Lingling's paintings function as portals — inviting viewers into a cosmos of symbolic imagery, cycles of nature, and the invisible connections binding all matter.
