MY PRACTICE: DRAWING AND MANIPULATION
For me drawing is “the” practice, a starting point.
Drawing is the way to record the physic and metaphysic world, the basis to project and plan. Drawing is a path, a trace, a carrying memory foot-print, a stroke .
Spreading, scratching, etching and folding are actions that I prefer and understand better when it comes to making works and installations.
I use 'tangible' methods and traditional techniques, mostly printmaking medias, pushing their boundaries. The procedure, somehow complex, of stone lithography and etching triggers and informs my expression.
I employ a variety of metals, wood, paper and fabric, I choose natural materials to compose my pieces as I think they carry an inner organic beauty, due to their characteristics and structure (symmetry/grain/warmth/colour).
My artworks are open, they change each time I print and install them, they embed impressions and conditions coming from the environment. I use everything I make to witness the process, suggesting the performing potential of ancient methods.
I reckon this personal follow-up and revival of a past tradition important as an act of meditation.
Recently I have included digital medias in my research. I mounted my archive of printed images and drawings in video projections as settings for dancers and performers.
My prints are in many public and private collections, including the Italian National Print Cabinet in Milan, Natural History Museum in Florence, Tuscany Print Collection and the V&A in London.
