My name is Zora Zajicek, I am a 23 year old artist, art historian, curator and musician. I graduated from the University of Edinburgh in the spring of last year with a masters in History of Art before attending Charles Cecil studios in Florence to study portraiture over the summer. My art work explores the relationship between ancestry and apocalypse drawing on reoccurring themes such as veneration, prophecy and ritual. In doing so, I draw on my own Slavic ancestry for reference and like to incorporate the folk art and traditional materials of that region. As for music, my main instrument is the accordion and my songwriting draws on my heritage through balkan folk sounds whilst combining it with elements of psych rock and sludge rock. I was born and raised in London England and raised there as well as in British Colombia Canada. As of last September I am living in Los Angeles CA where I am spending time creating new works in my studio as well as working in the public arts sector for the City of Santa Monica and Meztli projects. The focus of this work is providing community art events for indigenous youth and promoting public art initiatives for indigenous artists. The topic of my masters dissertation was contemporary North American Indigenous art and activism and is a cause very close to my heart.
