Paul F. Yount is an artist whose concentration are large scale figurative narrative oil paintings. Yount who was born in North Carolina, raised in Tennessee, has traveled the globe and lived throughout the United States. This multiregional background gives Yount’s paintings the mystery and depth found in cinema and literature.
Yount received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1983 and Studied at a Masters level at The School Of the Museum Of Fine Arts Museum School at Tufts University Boston Massachusetts in 1995.
As Yount was trained in a formal academic world, he retrained himself to think and paint in a reinvented vocabulary that has now become his non linear figurative narrative. This narrative style has become the answer to all the life riddles that Yount has encountered.
Yount's early work was instilled with passionate religious secular imagery with a solo show at The Caged Angel Gallery in Allston Massachusetts in 1985. The group exhibition Religion and Sexuality 1991 at The University of Transylvania, Kentucky exhibited Yount's painting in a group exhibition allowed Yount to explore homosexuality and the meaning of taught ideologies.
Influenced by foreign cinema, literature and life experiences Yount began painting more social political issues with many group exhibitions after moving from Los Angeles to Hawaii. This period of growth in his paintings was the advent of exploring issues that were the paradigm of time, memory, experiences, history, sexuality, science, technology and how all of these become integral in reconstructing life in his paintings.
Yount moved from Hawaii to Florida and at this time he received a grant from The Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation in 2020. Presently, Yount is living in Florida and creating a new series of triptychs that speak of the human condition in an unknown manner of eternalism being the philosophy of time.
