I am currently a Chinese art student and a former Chinese soldier. I am studying at Shanghai Theatre Academy, majoring in Film Production. I have strong concerns and sympathy for China's political system and people's living conditions. I have been creating direct photography for nearly three years. Still, when I started to get in touch with Andreas Gursky's work, I found that the photos produced by direct photography can be used as creative material and to enhance expressiveness through post-production methods. Then I began to try to create a work that is both realistic and abstract, so my work usually has the texture of photography, but I will innovate part of it according to my thinking.
My work depicts society's impact on human nature and, in a way, is a kind of record of China's unique system. I do not create with pure feelings but choose visual symbols that can effectively express the actual situation. For example, in one of my significant works, " Chinese Mud-bricks, "I decided to use the visual symbols of pixel images to illustrate the process of people changing in the Chinese officialdom system, which comes from the personal experience of a covid-19 public health event in China.
In addition to observing and thinking about politics, my work will also include understanding nature and life forms. I think this style is very expressive. Based on the viewer's experience with real photos, the contrast of the abstract parts will be strengthened, leading to thinking about reality.
