Yago Toscano is an artist, degree in Visual Arts from UERJ. In his artistic research, he investigates the main tropes that founded his life, such as being a rural and peripheral artist, living in an area of Rio de Janeiro where public safety, culture, education and health remain in a state of precariousness. From this, Toscano produces his works, reflecting bodies at the borders of society, such as gays, prisoners, the sick and the rural people, under conditions put by the state, which promotes neglect and violence, from the lack of subsidies to maintain life in multiple instances. It is starting from the precariousness, the need, the lack, an economy of words and gestures, in which the artist produces power for his works of art, which resist, as a subtle political gesture in the face of vigilant institutional macro policies.
Yago participated in several important exhibitions and the largest art fair in Brazil as the collective exhibition at the Paço Imperial Museum in early 2019, ArtRio 2018, II PEGA at the Helio Oiticica Municipal Art Center, among others.
