Read MoreJing (Ellen) Xu is a multidisciplinary artist born in Hailar, Inner Mongolia, China, and currently based in Queens, New York. She received a BA in Sculpture from Xiamen University and an MFA in Photomedia from the University of Washington in Seattle.
Xu works across sculpture, installation, drawing, and time-based media. Her practice uses repeated hand labor, fragile everyday materials, and accumulated structures to examine memory, vulnerability, protection, and the body’s relationship to space.
She has participated in residencies and fellowships at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Newport Art Museum, AnkhLave Arts Alliance, Wassaic Project, Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts, and Vermont Studio Center. She has received support from the Queens Arts Fund, Flushing Town Hall, BRIC Media Arts Fellowship, Hamiltonian Artists Fellowship, and other arts organizations.
Her work has been exhibited at Newport Art Museum, KID Museum, NY Live Arts, Governors Island, ROY G BIV Gallery, Jacob Lawrence Gallery, North Dakota Museum of Art, and other venues.
