Karolina Wyrwal is a versatile artist specialising in dance performance, choreography, and art direction. With a 1st Class BA Hons in Performing Arts from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance (UK) and a BA & MA in Food Science (PL), she adeptly blends these educational backgrounds to inform her dance practice.
In 2023, she was awarded the Research and Development Grant within the Performing Arts / Dance category and is currently immersed in the R&D phase of her latest project ‘Overchoice”, funded by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion Berlin.
Her film "End Effect" became part of the global campaign "Why Plastic" (2022) by the WHY Foundation, showcased at the Odense International Film Festival (OFF).
She has collaborated with renowned choreographers like Ohad Naharin, Yossi Berg, Jacek Przybylowicz, Be van Vark, Ewa Wycichowska, Andile Sotiya.
As a performer, Karolina has worked extensively with Cie Toula Limnaios (2012-2023) and Polish Dance Theatre (2008-2012). She has been a part of over 70 dance festivals around the world, including prestigious events such as Impulstanz in Vienna, Vivadança International Festival in Salvador, Festival Quartiers Danses in Montréal, Beijing Dance Festival, Festival d’Avignon, to name a few.
She has also established herself as a prolific creator, producing full-length pieces for the Polish Dance Theatre, Szczecin’s Philharmonic, Cie Toula Limnaios and founding The Black & White Project, an art collective responsible for award- winning short video works. Notable works include collaborations with Kiosk Ruchu Dance Theatre (PL) on pieces like "Fin Amor" and "Unstable Matter” and a duo performance with Alba de Miguel commissioned by HAUS DES RUNDFUNKS for the Kunst im Bau festival in Berlin.
In recent years, Karolina has collaborated with electronic music artist BLACKPITCH (DE), directing, choreographing, and producing art videos that have gained recognition at multiple film festivals. Her portfolio includes engagements with Berlin-based companies such as Thikwa Theater, Tanztheater Global, and Szczecin Philharmonic (PL), where she created the interactive show "Bromba and the Music” for 40 young dancers, actors and an orchestra (2016).
She has provided choreographic assistance and art direction for stage productions with visual artist and dancer Marcin Motyl, including Solo TEN (2021), Day ZERO (2022), and the short film New Version, which have been showcased at various European festivals.
She believes in the transformative power of movement and embraces collaborative efforts with artists from diverse disciplines to provoke dialogue and inspire social change.
