I am a photographer and abstract painter, currently working as a freelance
creative in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Since earning a Summa Cum Laude degree in Fine Art Photography from De
Fotoacademie Amsterdam in 2005, I have lived in Amsterdam, New Zealand and
London and travelled to many more interesting places, learning, looking,
creating and experiencing new things.
As a photographer I am interested in capturing everything that has anything to
do with the human condition. I specialize in portraits, but also love working with
writers and performers to create album and book covers.
I have started abstract painting and drawing in earnest in 2015 and am self taught.
I usually draw on experiences that are universal to all people, but feel unique
when they happen to us like deÌjaÌ€-vu or
heartbreak. I’m currently working on a series of oil paintings titled 'Visceral' about the
memories I associate with certain smells, like petrol, Chinatown or church.
All my work is about things we cannot see but we know are there. Previous
series titles include ‘Kismet’ and ‘Mind Games.’ I like to keep a sense of mystery
in my work, like the viewer is looking at a secret.
Esthetically I rely heavily on colour. I work in multiple mediums and usually on
multiple series at the same time. I try not to be too analytical about my style. I
know, conceptually, what I want to get across, but the act of painting itself is very
much an intuitive one for me. I try not to over-intellectualize or over-think. In a
sense, my work comes from the body, not the mind.
