This would be where I describe how my grandfather was a photographer, as was my father, and that I was practically born with a camera in my lap in 1979. My mother was of course a talented artist and I attended the best photography school in Germany before setting out into the world to work as an assistant for established photographers.
But that’s not my story. Instead, let’s start with the story of how a person who worked as a bouncer and security guard would go on to become a photographer. It’s much more interesting.
It all began in 2005 when I took a couple of photos of my partner and posted them on the internet. It seemed that quite a few people were taken by them. So I posted more of my photos of her online. I liked that other people liked my pictures. It was more motivating than strenuous workouts at the fitness centre, so I kept going until what was just fun became a hobby, the hobby became a passion and this passion became a profession. Suddenly, I was a photographer.
And now I can hardly imagine a better profession. I didn’t take A levels and I don’t have a university degree or professional qualification, which means I’ve never learned anything “sensible”. But I’ve made something of myself in spite of that (or maybe because of it). I’ve never been one to follow conventional paths. I always wanted to do things differently on principle. My playful approach to the medium, together with my passion for photography, is what helped me to keep growing.
My pictures have been published in Stern.de, Spiegel Online, Cosmopolitan, and other established magazines. I have won prizes and awards from many institutions, and I have been delightfully surprised to have come across my works in German museums or galleries in California. Every year, countless photographers attend my seminars, coachings, and photo events to learn something about my vision and methods.
The ways of life are often a mystery. If anyone had approached me at “my door” 15 years ago and told me that things would turn out as they have, I wouldn’t have let them in. But these days I can laugh about myself.
I still have a lot ahead of me, and I dream BIG. I am always happy to have partners, colleagues, and customers who believe in me and want to grow together with me.
For everything else, I’ll let my pictures speak for themselves. I look forward to hearing from you.
