David Va, is a visual artist. Born in the Island of
Mauritius, and spending much of his adolescent and early adult life in New York
City. His current resident is in Ansbach, Germany. David exhibited a mural
painting in the 50th Venice Biennale as part of the VV2 residency,
selected by renowned curator, Daniel Birnbaum.
He is an alumni of the premiere art institution, Pratt
Institute in Brooklyn, New York and Staedle Schule in Frankfurt, Germany. David's
early art works were abstract paintings and art installations.
David's current art expressions are oil paintings of hip hop
icons portrayed as deity. With his paintings he questions whether hip hop is a
new religion. The paradox of hip hop as a religion stems from the fact that the
main icons of hip hop are decedents of slaves. Therefore, if they were to inherit
a religion it would have been that of their decedent's slave master. Could it
be that Hip Hop has taken the form of a religion, thus it's world wide
popularity and domination.
David, is the owner of Sweet as Tattoo a tattoo studio in
Ansbach, Germany whose clientele consist mostly of American Soldiers stationed
in Europe.
