Max Trutt is the artist name of Maxim Trudolubov, a Vienna-based visual artist working across drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media. His practice uses animal imagery and allegorical forms to examine conflict, power, collective movement, and the possibility of communication beyond divisive political language. Through layered monoprints, transfers, erasure, and material resistance, figures become unstable signs and imagined alphabets, opening a shared space between human and non-human experience. Before developing his visual practice, Trudolubov spent two decades as a journalist and editor, including work on the founding team of Vedomosti, as a contributing opinion writer for The New York Times, and as editor of Meduza’s Ideas section. He has held fellowships at Harvard, Yale, and the Robert Bosch Foundation, and is a Senior Advisor at the Kennan Institute in Washington, DC.
