Photographer and film maker Luigi Toscano is an autodidact whose life story has taken many twists and turns. As a roofer, a bouncer, and a window cleaner, the son of Italian guest workers has gained experiences from many different perspectives. That this has
evolved into an art career is unusual.
Luigi Toscano‘s work focuses on people and reveals what lies behind what we see with our
eyes.
His art speaks a language everyone can understand. A language he can use to express political viewpoints and take a clear stand. For this, he continues moving more and more into public space. Luigi Toscano presents his work in open places, the front of houses, squares and parks, not hidden behind the doors of a museum.
The first time this concept was realized was in 2014: For his exhibition Heimat_Asyl (Home_Asylum) Luigi Toscano put larger than life portraits of asylum seekers in a central square of his hometown Mannheim, and thus into the consciousness of thousands of people. 2014 was also the year he started LEST WE FORGET.
