Filippo Tommasoli is a photographer, filmmaker and visual artist born in 1990 in Verona, Italy. He began working as a professional photographer in the family photography studio, Studio Tommasoli (active since 1906), where he built his experience in digital and analog photography, combining the study of new technologies with that of traditional processes. Parallel to his professional activity, he immediately began to explore the artistic expressive potential of photographic language, dwelling on its semiotic and philosophical peculiarities (in 2015 he graduated in philosophy of language with a thesis entitled "Photography: a way of world-making. A philosophical analysis of photographic language").
His artistic research focuses mainly on photographic language and its grammar, with photographic and videographic experiments and multimedia installations, in which he seeks to explore the relationship between reality, truth and representation. He is among the winners of the "New Post Photography Award" 2022 (MIA Photo Fair), and was selected by the Malerba Foundation for the photographic exhibition "Miradas Compartidas," Havana, Cuba, November 2022. In March 2023, he exhibited about ten of his works at the Italian Cultural Institute in New York. He is among the finalists of Combat Prize 2023.
