Niels Tofahrn was born in Rastatt in 1963.
After training as a stonemason and studying art history for a few semesters,
he worked primarily as a sculptor, draughtsman, installation artist and photographer.
Since 1991, his work has been featured in numerous exhibitions in Germany,
France, Switzerland, and overseas. Notable exhibitions include Regionale Basel,
L6 Freiburg, Kunst am Wasser in Bern, Galerie Stahlberger in Weil am Rhein,
Markgräfler Museum in Müllheim, Art Karlsruhe, Sculpture by the Sea in Perth,
Salon Mondial Basel, Vögele Kulturzentrum in Pfäffikon and the Hans Erni Museum
in Lucerne.
In 1993, he won an award for his design of a Jewish memorial in the former
Buchenwald concentration camp.
In 2013, he received the Markgräfler Art Prize.
