Biography: I am born and grew up in Kongsvinger, Norway. After high school, 50 years ago, I went to Ticino, the border with Italy in Switzerland, to learn weaving in a professional environment, Tessitura La Vignora, Bedigliora.After finishing my MA at College of Art, Oslo, and until today I have investigated the possibility of weaving large textiles that can be folded into a shape. Folded together, opened, folded again, the same way each time.Repetition and communication are two important terms for me. I get the motivation from nature and science. Organic material that is expressed in a geometric form. A built-in scaffold grid that makes it possible to fold, assemble in a controlled manner. From the indefinite to the particular, from chaos to order.The textiles appear as architectural elements more than carpets.
The materials (paper thread, linen, mohair and lurex) along with the expression make the work transforme old tradition into our time.Now I am commute between Rendalen, in Norway and North Italy, near the border to Switzerland where I first time learn to weav. During the pandemic I was artist in residence in Switzerland. I couldn't go anywhere, I started drawing birds in large format. I could immerse myself in a previous interest, ornithology. I draw the form naturalistically, but then I have to interpret the plumage. This is where I use my knowledge of texture/structure from the textile works. I just keep drawing
Studying the composition of the structure is my inspiration.
