The Viennese artist
Brigitte Thonhauser-Merk expresses her love for harmonious colours and clear
lines in works full of power, vivid
colours and elegance where her cultural heritage of the Viennese
Jugendstil meets with inspirations from nature and the great masters of the
past she discovered in the fifties during several trips to Paris. She is
working out her impressions according to her own fantasy sometimes with an
ornamental touch or by reducing the shapes even to abstract creations. She
likes joyful subjects which are to be „a feast for the eyes“ as mentioned by
Delacroix. In her artistic research she likes to explore new ways of expression.
She got her artistic
education in the Vienna School of Fine Arts, Lazarettgasse and in private
lessons with famous painters in Austria and is holding a Master’s degree
in Romanistik and a Bachelor’s degree in
Art History from the University of Vienna/Austria.
Her paintings have
been shown in more than 120 sole and group exhibitions in Europe, China, Israel
(Salon d’Automne International), Turkey, USA (New York), and she got several
awards of excellence, like the Global Art Award 2017 in Dubai (1st prize in the category illustration).
