Widmer Tassinari is an unconventional painter. His canvases are characterised by strong expressionist lines drawn with pathos and accompanied by bold brushstrokes of contrasting colours, through which the artist explores every hidden corner of the human psyche.
Widmer was born in the Emilian countryside, in close contact with nature, which had a profound influence on his ideals and artistic development. From a very young age, he would draw on any scrap of paper he could get his hands on. Tassinari, being rebellious and non-conformist by nature, chose to forge his own artistic path, steering clear of the dogmas of academic art. His vibrant compositions bear this out, featuring abstract-figurative scenes in which he often incorporates symbolism and annotates his thoughts with inscriptions, alluding to a game of rebuses. In the boldness of his brushstrokes, as conveyed in his paintings, one senses the unbridled, ingenious madness that serves as the driving force behind his work; in every piece, a female figure is present, regarded by the artist as the epicentre of life. His canvases feature grotesque figures; whilst touching upon profound existential themes, they illustrate important issues in a satirical manner. The artist expresses himself simultaneously with gentleness, yet also with candour and self-deprecating humour, revealing the secrets of his collective unconscious. His painting is a diary of human existence, in which Widmer Tassinari paints and reveals the emotional and existential inner world of humankind.
We might say that, whilst his art always draws on nature and its symbolism, it encapsulates an inner space of the human psyche shaped by our perceptions and thoughts. Widmer Tassinari’s canvases are distinguished by their unique, recognisable style, constituting an artistic psychoanalysis and an existential snapshot of contemporary society.
