I grew up in one of California’s little valley towns situated in what was once considered the garden of Eden, but is now ravaged by fire, pollution, and drought; one of the most ecologically changed areas on the face of the earth in the last 120 years. I now live in New Zealand. My formal education was acquired at Stanford University with a BA in Political Science, and my practical knowledge came from braving the different while allowing a propensity towards Art and Nature to prevail. I am an outlier and an emergent. My voice and presence have been barely noticed for I purposely chose a quiet life in order to create. I am that anomaly from an age in which no one imagines anything, but with the pandemic, climate change, and the 6th mass extinction event circling the slip knot of existence, reason has rattled an inexorable state deep inside which demands expression with a collective awareness for nature, for beauty, for life. Therefore, I have distilled the science necessary to grasp our starlit journey to an evolutionary consciousness, created edgy thoughts to keep the light of reason from falling into the appalling Stygian consumption of greed, and painted paper, wood, and canvas, strung together prose and poetry, and finally, with awe and frustration, I’ve climbed into the bloody machine that drives us all in order to design and weave. It is within this consilience of ideas and mediums that the seeing and telling has unfolded with some beauty, innocence, prophetic concepts, blunders and happenstance. My name is lonagil, and I come from a long line of builders, homemakers, thinkers, and tinkerers too. I am an artist.
