K O N J U N T O is the combined vision of David Barnes and Esther Harris, two art and design professionals whose individual careers in art and shoemaking led to a new joint focus of creating original, modular art pieces for interiors.
David graduated in Fine Art (B.A. Cardiff 1997), followed by further studies at the Prince's School of Traditional Arts, London (M.A. 2004), which introduced him to Islamic Art and to the hand-drawn construction of complex geometric patterns. During his time there, he ran several geometry workshops in Nigeria, working with local craftspeople, as well as in the Middle East and London.
Esther grew up in a tailoring family and spent many a Saturday in her father's alterations workroom surrounded by scraps of material. After graduating in the History of Art (B.A., Cambridge, 1997), she later trained in shoemaking in Northamptonshire, UK, which initiated an affinity for working with leather and her career working in the footwear industry.
Fusing traditional geometry with modern aesthetics, they have developed three original modular patterns using an innovative no-sew, no-glue technique.
Exclusively using locally sourced, high-quality leather that is reclaimed from the shoe-making and accessories industries. The resulting richly textural pieces give rise to a vast range of design possibilities. No stitching or glue also means each one can be reconfigured into a new pattern and shape.
Each piece is designed and made in our studio in the inspirational city of Porto.
