Steffen Bartenschlag is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, drawing, photography, object-making, music, and text. Since the 1980s, he has developed an expansive practice centered on introspection, transformation, and the interplay between visual and acoustic perception. His projects often move between material and immaterial dimensions, reflecting a sustained interest in resonance, language, and the poetics of form.
Artistic Practice
Bartenschlag’s work integrates visual, textual, and sonic elements into a continuous exploratory process. His approach combines intuitive composition with conceptual reflection, resulting in works that oscillate between abstraction and associative figuration. Recurring themes include perception, memory, and the idea of the “once-said” (Hapax legomenon) as a metaphor for singular experience.
