Before pursuing ceramics full-time, she worked across remote Australia as a jillaroo and later as a shearer, experiences that fostered a lasting connection to the landscape, traditional craft, and the natural world.
She completed a Diploma of Ceramics in 2019, receiving the Award of Highest Excellence, and has since developed a practice centred on hand-built sculptural vessels created using traditional coil-building techniques. Every work is built and ornamented entirely by hand, reflecting a commitment to slow, labour-intensive making.
St John's work has been exhibited throughout Australia, including at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, Hazelhurst Arts Centre, and Clifton School of Arts. She was a finalist in the National Emerging Art Prize, and her work is held in private collections in Australia and internationally.
