My name is
Katarina Spacal and I'm textile and clothing designer.
I graduated in textile and clothing design from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering at the University of Ljubljana in 2001. I live and work in a village named Kostanjevica, in the Karst region of Slovenia. I'm married and I have two children (14 and 16 years) From 2020 to 2017 I worked in two different companies as a designer and a help to PR. From 2017 I am self-employed in culture as a painter. I create woven paintings, which are so-called presented by art critics, and also exhibited. I deal with the unique weaving on hand looms. My basic medium of expression is colored threads, with which I create fabrics by hand weaving, which I further combine into various compositions of woven paintings. I sew several pieces of different dimensions together and get new shapes by folding. As if painting with a brush, I play with the whole by sewing different colored details. Reliefs and miscellaneous details refinement the whole.
My woven paintings have been shown at the following solo exhibitions:
Jakopič Galery, Ljubljana (June 2002)
Meduza Galery, Koper (July 2002)
