I am Andrea Solaja.
When I was ten I lived in a bunker for several months while my country, Serbia, was being bombed.
I was not injured. However, I was left with a scar which is not visible to the eyes.
As the months went by the crevice of that scar became wider and wider and I feared that I would have never been able to heal it.
When I emerged from the bunker, after spending months in the darkness, the sunlight hit me with the force of her warmth.
I was wrapped within her waves and carried somewhere else, far away from the cold.
Her corpuscles slowly laid down on my body. They have found a cosy place, fertile.
Her materic nature planted a seed in the furrow created by that scar.
Seeds of light.
This is my art.
It germinates and expands itself to narrate my story. It is nourished by the substances that I forage to make them become part of my works.
The same nature feeds my art. On my canvas I display moss, barks and clays found in the natural environment.
My portfolio encases and reveals my deep bond with nature and the light that I have regained. You can call my art Evolutionary/Foraging: it changes with the changing of the seasons, with the different materials I find, with the colours of Nature. She guides me in the choice of the materials you will find on my canvas.
