My name is Sonia Karageorgi and I wish to present to you my artistic work. I create 3d paintings and sculptures made of wood and aluminium.
For as long as I can remember, I have 2 obsessions: 1/ I want to go to space, 2/ I’m wondering what the hell I’m doing on this planet. I guess my strong interest for Art originates from there.
From my childhood, among various events, I mostly remember the move of my family from Greece to France. I’m 5 years old. I grow up in Paris, where I complete my school years and my first graduate and post-graduate studies in Management and Finance. After returning to my native country and working for 2 years in a multinational company in Athens, I decide to change the course of my life and follow my dream for an artistic path. After 3 years, I get a Bachelor degree in Graphic Design.
From that time on, all kind of travel became possible for me. I lived unforgettable experiences, a 0 gravity flight, a classic Athenian marathon run, an artistic project in an inflatable building designed by Philippe Starck, and awakening journeys. From all these moments I kept color and also light. Growing up in Paris, in a city where art is part of its identity, I was constantly stimulated. This environment was a big source of inspiration for me.
In my work, I try to “convert” my feelings into an artistic object, and to find the links that unite people. Therefore I created a “character” with main traits being the heart and the head. I named it “dreamer” for its talent to balance them in harmony. The body is bulky because subject to earth gravity, but is also thin because in the universe it’s nothing. Nothing but everything at the same time. In my 3d frames or in my sculptures, I create color gradients which represent dream and childhood that live in us. Materials I use are aluminum leafs that I laser-cut in a factory, and wood that I craft in my atelier.
