Biography Art
Su Sigmund works as an artist, set and costume designer on the stages of important theater- and opera houses. In the visual arts she focus on intuitive and abstract painting.
The artist and stage costume designer Su Sigmund studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Erich Wonder, one of the great stage designer and painting artists in the Europe.
Influenced by Wonder's painting, many artistic works (especially paintings and installations) were created during this time in addition to theater work.
While she was still studying, Sigmund became Erich Wonder's assistant.
Su Sigmund designed her first own stage and costume design for the “Festival for Young Dogs” in Hamburg – Kampnagel and in 2000 at the famous Vienna Theater Festival.
This resulted in a commitment to the Bavarian State Theater and a long and intensive collaboration arose. In the following years she worked at all major German-speaking operas and theaters and beyond.
Clients included the Vienna Burgtheater, Theater an der Wien-Opernhaus, Deutsche Theater Berlin, Bayerische Staatsschauspiel Munich, Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Opernhaus Zurich and Het Muziektheater in Amsterdam, working with great directors such as Johannes Schaaf, Jürgen Flimm, Tina Lanik, Elisabeth Stöppler, Frank Lorenz Engel, Itay Tiran and Martin Kušej.
Su Sigmund received a scholarship in ART from the Salzburg Summer Academy for painting with Bruce McLean, and was also awarded the City of Vienna’s sponsorship award for creating the three-part installation 'TRI'.
Since 2013, Su Sigmund has again focused more on her artistic work and painting.
In May 2015, the exhibition 'Hommage to Peter Grimes' was shown for the first time at the Kunsthalle Koblenz, which was created parallel to her opera production Peter Grimes.
Further exhibitions followed in Vienna, Graz, Mainz, Cologne, Koblenz and Zurich.
The last international exhibition was shown in Kunstgalerie Bachlechner in Zürich Bergdietikon in Okt 22-Feb 23, a Collaboration with artists from Austria und Switzerland.
In her Studio in Vienna she installed an ArtSalon, a place to connect an showing art.
