Yulia Shtern is a Canadian Visual Artist, and a Scenic and Costume Designer for Theatre, Dance and Opera currently residing in Northern Italy. She possesses an undergraduate degree in Drawing and Painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, a Masters Degree in Scenic Design from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, and a Master in Opera Direction from the Verona Accademia per l'Opera Italiana in Verona, Italy. She has been practicing as a Scenic and Costume Designer for over a decade. Her work has been recognized by a number of awards, including a nomination for a Jessie Richardson Award for Outstanding Costume Design (2010), a nomination for an Ovation Award for Outstanding Costume Design for a Musical (2011), and winning a Jessie Richardson Award for Significant Artistic Achievement: Outstanding Design Team (2011). Yulia takes a special interest in environmental issues, in travelling the world, and in the study of foreign languages. Alongside her work in theatre, she continues practicing as a Visual Artist, having shown her artwork in 6 solo and over 40 group exhibitions. Her new series of sculptures called Magical Zoo, which she has started working on in 2016, has been awarded a 3rd Place Prize for Sculpture at the XXII International Art and Culture Awards, Cava de'Tirreni, Italy (2018). Yulia's artwork has been shown in Canada, Norway, Scotland, Italy, and USA, and could be found in private collections across North America and Europe.
