Michael Sheng is a mixed-media artist born in Shanghai and raised in New York. His work explores the intersections of environmental change, cultural identity, and migration, drawing from personal experience as an immigrant and overseas Chinese. Working primarily with painting and video installation, Sheng blends traditional techniques with contemporary materials—including found objects and digital projection—to examine the impact of climate change and the emotional terrain of displacement. His practice often centers on themes that transcend borders and histories, using abstraction to create layered narratives that reflect both global concerns and personal emotions.
Michael’s work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the U.S. and internationally, including the Museum of Chinese in America; the Arsenale in Venice, Italy; the Hamptons Fine Art Fair at Southampton Arts Center; Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning; the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology; Gallery 456 of the Chinese American Arts Council; the National Arts Club; the Salmagundi Art Club; and the Society of Illustrators.
