Andrea Sguario (Soave, Verona, 1991) is an Italian visual artist whose research focuses on abstraction as a language to convey emotional intensity and the transience of lived experience. Trained in painting at the Brenzoni Art School (San Giorgio di Valpolicella, 2013) and later enrolled in the Painting program at the Accademia di Belle Arti “G.B. Cignaroli” in Verona (2016), his formative years were marked by a deep engagement with gestural painting and chromatic contrast. Despite attending the academy for only one year due to professional commitments, this period proved pivotal in the consolidation of his visual vocabulary and the adoption of abstraction as his primary mode of expression.
From 2018 to 2020, he was a member of Alta Tensione, a shared studio space and artistic collective active in the Verona region, where he regularly participated in exhibitions and events, expanding his dialogue with fellow artists and the public.
Sguario’s work is characterized by the spontaneous use of acrylics on canvas, where the juxtaposition of warm and cool tones is used to reflect emotional tensions, psychological states, and fleeting sensations. His paintings emerge without pre-established compositional schemes, guided instead by the immediacy of gesture and the introspective state of the moment. This instinctual process aligns with his belief in painting as a direct extension of inner experience—free from conceptual over-determination.
His recent work “Ora” (2023) was selected for the 14th edition of the Premio Combat Prize, receiving a special mention from the jury. The work, as noted in the official catalogue, explores themes of time and ephemeral emotion, reinforcing his interest in capturing transient moments through color and form.
He has taken part in several national and international art events, including the Artefici del Nostro Tempo competition at the Venice Biennale (2019), the International Art Exhibition in Barcelona (2022), and the Volcana Festival (2019). His work has been featured in publications such as Art Now magazine (2022) and the official Combat Prize Catalogue (2023).
Andrea Sguario currently lives and works in Verona, where he continues to develop a practice centered on abstract painting as an introspective and emotional terrain.
